I’d rather ask a better question than sell a better answer.

I’m Dave Montag — a fractional CIO & CTO for leaders who don’t need a full-time one, but also don’t want an off-the-shelf playbook.

I’ve spent the last two decades inside and alongside technology organizations — as an operator, an executive, and, most lately, as the person leaders call when they’re about to spend a lot of money on a decision they’re only 60% sure about.

My work almost always begins with the same question: what are you actually trying to build? Not the roadmap. Not the platform strategy. The whyunderneath it. Half the time the answer surprises the person who hired me — and once it’s named out loud, the right path gets noticeably shorter.

I don’t believe in transformation for its own sake, or in prescriptions given before diagnosis. I believe in crew, in taking honest soundings, and in shipping the smallest thing that actually moves the needle. I’d rather write you a two-paragraph email that lands than a fifty-page deck that gathers dust.
